Environment protection

Compared to other fossil energy resources, by using natural gas, less amount of harmful materials are emitted into the atmosphere. Therefore, expanding the usage of natural gas is a major and rational tool for decreasing the greenhouse effect.

In cooperation with our market partners, we make steps in order to extend the utilization of sustainable and efficient natural gas, to encourage the usage of high-quality and energy-efficient appliances, to reinforce energy-efficiency guidance, and to develop school materials of energy- and environmental awareness.

The E.ON Group intends to invest a total of EUR 100 million into ten projects in the operation areas of E.ON in Europe, addressing the newest challenges of the energy industry – i.e. energy-efficiency and environment protection. This will include building the most modern coal plant in the world, storing CO2 underground, building wind power plants to utilize sustainable energy resources, or injecting bio natural gas into the conventional natural gas system.

Recent technical developments make it possible to produce natural gas from bio-substances, with which serious headway has been made in Germany. Producing bio natural gas deserves a focused attention due to its efficiency. Biogas is a well-known sustainable energy resource in Hungary, however, combining its usage with natural gas is still an innovation here. Utilizing bio natural gas means more than simply introducing an innovative and sustainable energy resource: the real challenge lies in the smooth cooperation of several sectors – i.e. of the natural gas industry and agriculture. Bio natural gas is produced by mixing biogas and natural gas, and combining a sustainable energy resource with the exploited natural gas extends the availability of the latter in the long run. Being the primary material of the biogas, biomass has the advantage that it can be reproduced by agricultural cultivation, thus the supply of this energy resource is infinite in theory.

We aim at environmental awareness in whatever we do. We have started implementing the green office programme: we try to act green by selective waste collection, sound electricity consumption, reduced paper consumption and by installing watersaver appliances. Our offices are designed to utilize natural light as much as possible, and besides the green considerations, this also has a favourable effect on the general state of our colleagues.
